Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles
Vice President Gore has played a pivotal role in the creation of
an historic new partnership between government and industry to
develop a new generation of vehicles. Officially known as
Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles, this program will
strengthen U.S. competitiveness by developing technologies for a
new generation of vehicles up to three times more fuel efficient
than today's -- a technological challenge comparable to the
Apollo project. It also will help ensure that the U.S. auto
industry leads the world in technology, preserves and creates
jobs, and spurs economic growth, as well as protects the
environment through reduced pollution emissions.
