The Associate Director for State and Local Affairs is appointed by the President and is responsible for providing direction to the Bureau of State and Local Affairs, which coordinates agency relationships and outreach efforts to State and local government agencies, as well as rural areas and public interest groups, to promote the National Drug Control Strategy. Specific activities of this office include consulting with State and local drug-related government agencies to gather input for developing the National Drug Control Strategy, administering the HIDTA program, promoting coordination among and evaluating the Federal, State, and local counternarcotics programs, and establishing partnerships with State and local governments to implement National Drug Control Strategy policies and programs.
