In implementing its mission, ONDCP has the following core
responsibilities:
ONDCP serves as the President's Primary office for formulating the
Nation's illicit drug policy and providing Government-wide drug program
oversight. More than 50 Federal Government agencies have drug control
responsibilities that are coordinated by ONDCP.
ONDCP develops the National Drug Control
Strategy and the National Drug Control Strategy Budget
for the President to submit to congress. The Strategy is developed and
implemented following consultation with Federal, State, and local
agencies and nongovernmental experts and organizations.
ONDCP represents the Administration's drug policies and budget issues
before Congress.
ONDCP monitors the domestic and international counternarcotics efforts
of all Government agencies, ensuring that such efforts are consistent
with the National Drug Control Strategy.
ONDCP is responsible for the High
Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program which provides
resources to areas identified as having
the most critical drug-trafficking problems that adversely affect the
rest of the country.
